Dia- open source diagrams tool

Dia is open-source visual-editing software that can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and many other diagrams. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape. It can load and save diagrams to a custom XML format (gzipped by default, to save space), can export diagrams to a number of formats, including EPS, SVG, XFIG, WMF and PNG, and can print diagrams (including ones that span multiple pages).

Dia is free software/open source general-purpose diagramming software, developed as part of the GNOME project's office suite and was originally created by Alexander Larsson. Dia uses a controlled single document interface (CSDI) similar to GIMP and Sodipodi.

Dia has a modular design with several shape packages available for different needs: flowchart, network diagrams, circuit diagrams, etc. It does not restrict symbols and connectors from various categories from being placed together.

Dia can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity-relationship models (tedia2sql can be used to create the SQL DDL), UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and simple electrical circuits. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) to draw the shape.

Dia loads and saves diagrams to a custom XML format (gzipped by default, to save space) and can print diagrams including very large diagrams that span multiple pages. It can also be scripted using the Python programming language.

Exports

Dia can export diagrams to various formats including the following:

  • EPS (Encapsulated PostScript)
  • SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)
  • DXF (Autocad's Drawing Interchange format)
  • CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile defined by ISO standards)
  • WMF (Windows Meta File)
  • PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
  • JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)
  • VDX (Microsoft's XML for Visio Drawing)

OpenFX - open source 3D animation

OpenFX is an Open-Source 3D modeling, animation, and rendering suite.A powerful feature-set includes a full renderer and raytrace engine, NURBS support, kinematics-based animation, morphing, and an extensive plug-in API. Plugin capabilities include image post processor effects such as lens flare, fog and depth of field. Animation effects such as explosions, waves and dissolves add enormously to the flexibility of the program.

Version 1.5 features new plugin animation effect for more realistic wave meshes for water modelling and new cubic environment mapping support and fixes miscular bugs.

What is OpenFX?

OpenFX is an Open-Source 3D modeling, animation and rendering suite created by Dr. Stuart Ferguson. He made the decision to release the source code to the public in the middle of 1999, and the product formerly named SoftF/X was renamed to OpenFX. It has now been released under the terms of the GNU General Public Licence.

(Stuart will hopefully fill in more of the history of OpenFX here.)

What can OpenFX do?

A powerful feature-set includes a full renderer and raytrace engine, NURBS support, kinematics-based animation, morphing, and an extensive plugin API.

Plugin capabilities include image post processor effects such as lens flare, fog and depth of field. Animation effects such as explosions, waves and dissolves add enormously to the flexibility of the program. Check out the full list of the various effect types and let your imagination run wild!

What platforms does OpenFX run on?

Currently, OpenFX only runs on the Win32 platform, which includes Windows 95/98/NT/2000/xp/vista. There are plans afoot to port it to Linux/*BSD platforms, and it currently runs fairly well under these by using the WINE set of libraries. If you are interested in helping to port to these platforms, please join our Development Mailing Lists and help out!

OpenX- open source, advertising

OpenX is a hugely popular, open source free ad server. With OpenX you're free to choose banners, campaigns and terms that suit you. And our highly sophisticated tracking system means you can gather statistics and optimize campaigns, all from the same simple interface. The result of this flexibility and reporting means that with OpenX, you can take complete control of your advertising. We're here to help you grow your business.

Version 2.4.6 includes enterprise level delivery, capability to serve billions of ads per month, smoother campaign delivery, easy integration with leading applications: Track Google and Yahoo! clicks, enhanced targeting and campaign management, and better reporting capability.

OpenX is an open-source advertising server (written in PHP and using a MySQL / PostgreSQL database) that is licensed under the GNU General Public License. It features an integrated banner management interface and tracking system for gathering statistics. The product enables web site administrators to rotate banners from both in-house advertisement campaigns as well as from paid or third-party sources, such as Google's AdSense.

OpenX is the latest reincarnation of the product's brand, following the name OpenAds, itself following the name phpAdsNew.

History

OpenX began as phpAdsNew, a fork from a similar project called phpAds, created by Tobias Ratschiller in 1998. When the phpAds project came to a halt in 2000, Wim Godden decided to create phpAdsNew by expanding the project with new features, thus creating phpAdsNew. He hoped the 'New' moniker would be temporary, lasting only until Ratschiller could update the phpAds website. Unfortunately, this only happened years later, after the name phpAdsNew was too well established to be changed.

During the time period between 2001 and 2002, Wim Godden led the phpAdsNew project and later received help from developers such as Niels Leenheer and Phil Hord, continually adding new features and improving the existing ones. After the release of version 1.9, a completely revised version 2.0 was created. This task was led by Niels Leenheer. The new version included many new features as well as a revised graphical user interface.

After gaining in popularity and earning support from the open-source community, the project was renamed to OpenAds. Features that were built for phpAdsNew 2.0 were also integrated into the latest OpenAds software, which at this point had reached version 2.3.

When version 2.4.4 was released in 2007, OpenAds was once again rebranded under a new name: OpenX.

Feature set

OpenX provides standard banner rotation, click tracking, zone-based ad selection, zone-based campaign targeting, direct ad selection, ad targeting (per browser, domain, language, etc), ad capping and full Adobe Flash support.

Cost

Since OpenX is published under the GPL license, there is no cost to use the software. It is freely downloadable.

OpenProj - open source project management

OpenProj is an open source project intended as a complete desktop replacement for Microsoft Project; it can open existing native Project files. OpenProj runs on the Java Platform, allowing it to run on a variety of different operating systems.

Version 1.0 of the programme was released on January 10th 2008.

Includes:

  • Earned Value costing
  • Gantt chart
  • PERT graph
  • Resource Breakdown Structure (RBS) chart
  • Task usage reports
  • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) chart

Acceptance

It has been downloaded over 800,000 times in over 142 countries. Three months after the beta version release, on SourceForge an average of 40,000 copies a month were downloaded. With a SourceForge activity percentile of 99.964, at number 15 it was listed just ahead of the popular messaging application Pidgin (software).[3] In May 2008 the total number of downloads on SourceForge reached 500,000.

Cellphone Signal Extender

A lot of technology goes into making your cellphone work. So you would think that we would be more understanding of dropped calls and garbled conversations. Nope. Nothing gets geeks into a seething tech frenzy like poor cellphone reception... and it doesn't help that we couldn't resist the glossy black smoothness of the iPhone and AT&T sucks for cellphone service. Sad.

Well quit staring at your one-bar-worth of signal strength and pick up this handy Cellphone Signal Extender for your home or office. Simply mount the included antenna near a window and run the coax cable to the base booster unit. You get 2500 square feet of prime signal area (enough to cover 2-3 rooms on two different floors). We went from 1 bar... to 5 at the ThinkGeek secret headquarters and made our iPhones very happy in the process.

Installation Summary:
Just so you know exactly what you are getting into, here is a brief description of what you'll need to do when you get the Cellphone Signal Extender home.

  1. Determine a mounting location for the external antenna. This can be indoors near a window, an outside door, in the attic, or on the exterior of your home or office. Basically you want to find the spot where you have the strongest signal... even if it's only one bar.
  2. Attach the external antenna to your chosen mounting spot using the included screws & hardware.
  3. Run the included coax cable from the external antenna to the base booster box. Place the box in a central location where you most need improved cellphone reception.
  4. Plug in the base booster box.
  5. Done. Happy calling!
Important Note:
You will need to have some signal (at least one bar), for the Cellphone Signal Extender to work. You can't extend what's not there... right?
